Cayman Islands weather will give visitors one of the hotter Caribbean experiences.
The Caribbean is known for warm weather, but most destinations have average high temperatures in the 80s Fahrenheit. The Cayman Islands is one of the few that exceeds 90 during the summer and even into the fall.
Besides hot weather, a vacation there means a chance for duty-free shopping and excursions such as Sting Ray City, one of the most popular tourist excursions in the Caribbean where visitors can jump into the ocean and swim with a school of friendly sting rays.
Cayman Islands Temperatures
The average maximum monthly temperature is 89.5 degrees Fahrenheit year round, which is one of the highest averages in the region, according to the World Meteorological Organization.
Average monthly temperatures exceed 90 degrees from May through November. Maximum temperatures average about 87 degrees in December, January, February and March.
These islands are unique for their warm days and cool nights.
The average monthly low temperature is 70.1 degrees, which also is one of the lowest regional averages.
The average low drops into the mid 60s from December through March. When temperatures drop that low in the Caribbean, sea water becomes uncomfortable for swimming.
Average Rainfall
The islands receive an average of 4.7 inches of rain per month. It typically rains 14 days a month.
Rainfall is moderate from January through April at 1.7 inches per month. Rainfall more than triples in May and climbs from there to September and October, when it averages 8.3 inches a month.
The islands receive much higher total rain than the average Caribbean destination in September and October.
The same is true for the number of days it rains each month. It rains 20 days in September and 19 days in October compared to less than 10 days in January through April.
When to Go
The most popular months to visit are March, April and December, according to the Caribbean Tourism Organization. March is popular despite low temperatures.
The least popular month is September, followed by October — right in the middle of the annual Caribbean hurricane season.
Vacationers wanting to experience the best Cayman Islands weather will find that April is the best month to go for warm but not uncomfortable temperatures and the fewest rain days.
Other good months are March, May, June and July. Avoid going there in September and October if possible.
Food Prices During the Great Depression
Food prices of the great depression in the 30s, were somewhat of a paradox, when you look back and consider how everything was so cheap, and, yet, at the same time, way too expensive for many people living through those times.
Food prices weren’t so much a problem for those who were employed during the great depression, as they could afford the daily essentials, and, perhaps, some extras, like a movie or ice cream; but, for the unfortunate ones who were unemployed, even the every-day, basic necessities were totally out of reach.
Actually, it wasn’t that the food prices were high, but it was the lack of, or absence of money that kept most things people not only desired, but needed, at arms length, or on the other side of the shop’s glass window.
Imagine not being able to run to the store and grab your desired food items, clothing, and, if you needed it, medicine; and then not being able to afford the mortgage or rent, or the electricity or gas for cooking. Could you go without?
Who, in our prior affluent day-and-age, could deal with that kind of inconvenience, when we’re used to flipping the light switch on in the morning, and turning on the automatic coffee machine to dilute some of those twelve-dollar-a-pound grounds we bought from the specialty coffee beanery-after already enjoying a six-dollar mocha grande with friends.
No such thing for families during the great depression, under their poor circumstances. Imagine buying just a plain (if you can get one today) cup of coffee with cream and sugar, for five cents; a two-egg-bacon-and-toast-with-a-piece-of-pie-and-a-cup-of-coffee breakfast, for 25 cents; or a candy bar for a dime.
It doesn’t sound like a lot, except those who were employed might only have been earning $2 or $3 a-day, but when you don’t have those few small coins, food prices of the great depression seemed pretty high! For those who had money, life was, undoubtedly, more comfortable even considering the times, but for those who had to scrimp and scrape to put food on the table, their days were filled with worry and strife.
Many mothers often went without food, so their children had more to eat. She didn’t spend her pennies foolishly, if she had them, but used them for the things that were vital to her family’s survival. She’d account for every cent.
With money during the great depression being so scarce, families frequently ran out of the little bit they may have acquired, from some type of labor, or, perhaps, from hocking something of sentimental value.
And, to make things worse, families lives were often compromised, or drasitically challenged, as the men would set out for other parts of the country seeking employment. Some men, never returned, but, instead, turned to illegal activities in hopes of gain, or to alcohol, only making their own, and their family’s problems worse. Some even chose suicide.
At any rate, most people had nowhere to turn, since borrowing from their neighbors or relatives would cause them further problems. Local stores might have extended credit to certain people, but they were rarely let off the hook to pay, as some people were still paying off bills that were outstanding, long after the war, which followed The Great Depression, ended.
Money-or, the lack of it-was the main thing that dominated millions of lives for many years during the earlier part of this century. And, it’s no different today. Money, for many people, in one way or the other, still rules.
Tough times are coming again for those who don’t think so, as many people world wide, are already experiencing our plummeting economy. I sure notice the presently rising food prices (or, more realistically, decreasing dollar value), as it costs way more for a half-empty grocery bag today, than it did not so long ago.
But, hey! There is hope, and for those who are informed, there’s no need to be surprised and led to despair by these coming hard times. We can take precaution, and plan and prepare for our now, and our future lifestyle management, by getting ahead of the game.
We can learn more about food prices of the great depression, and valuable ways on how we can prepare ourselves and our families, for what likely will, in some form or other, depending on our circumstances, be much like, or worse than, The Great Depression of the 30s.
Paradise Lost & Epic Simile
Satan is depicted in epic terms throughout Paradise Lost, but in ever diminishing ways. Beginning with the arch fiend’s address to his nearest mate, Beelzebub, (1.192-208), Satan is a Titanian figure, yet even here referred to, immediately following, in lesser form as Earth-born, a foreshadowing of his coming diminution. The text goes on, calling Satan Leviathan, a whale in size, that creature which God had made the hugest that swim th’ ocean stream, (1.202). He is imagined asleep on the Norway foam, a reference to things northern, thus implying mammoth dimensions in the reader’s mind. Milton returns to this reference later in his depiction of fallen cohorts. Continuing, Satan is so big that a sailor might take him for a small island, dropping anchor overnight to escape the sea wind, and wait till morning. (1.205)
The implication of an ongoing fall continues, as if Satan’s plunge may never end. He is allowed to pursue his dark designs, but he does so only with the high permission of all ruling heaven, (1.212). Heavenly permission granted, Satan sprouts wings, takes off into air that felt unusual weight, and alights once more with his sidekick Beelzebub. Both have recovered slightly, escaping the Stygian flood as Gods, and not by the sufferance of supernal power, (1.240-241). Satan’s determination to overcome his fate is on display, as he rouses himself and his fellow fallen angel.
Further on, (1.283-302), Satan is shown in even more graphic, yet still epic ways, as the superior fiend. Beelzebub has just finished addressing Satan, which but th’ omnipotent none could have foiled, thus raising his profile. But Milton again takes him down a notch in a very subtle way, comparing his shield in epic terms to the moon, (1.287), which object everyone knows hangs suspended in Earth’s orbit, and reflecting not its own light, but light from a larger, more powerful source. The author ends the simile by referring to Satan’s massive following of fellow fallen angels. Once again Milton chooses a rather pathetic analogy, saying that Satan’s legions are Thick as Autumnal leaves, (1.302), thus not only fallen to the ground, but a symbol of death, low regard and seasonal change as well.
Satan reproaches his Princes and Potentates, (1.315), rousing them to fight back. Those other fallen angels are then shown in epic terms, as they stirred to obey, their general’s voice, (1.337). Their numbers were such that they resembled a plague of locusts, a reference to Moses’ showering Egypt with a horde of those biblical insects, turning day to night. This reference is telling, since the fallen are once again described in terms of dark versus light. The plague is not only dark, it is carried on an eastern wind, a symbol in Milton’s world of ominous change, since the east was a source of exotic and dangerous infidels. The geographic menace is extended, when the angels are compared to hordes arriving, this time from the north, home of barbarous tribes spreading over Europe, beneath Gibraltar to Lybian sands, (1.355), thus engulfing the civilized world.
Beelzebub is depicted in epic ways in Book 2 of Paradise Lost. Satan’s second in command, Beelzebub is shown as an almost epically sad figure, perhaps a mirror image of man in his inability to exercise free will, and thus suffer the fate of a stronger angel. His name, from a Caananite reference meaning Lord of the Flies, presents an image of servitude, of someone willing to take whatever falls from the table. He rises, with, grave aspect, as a pillar of state, (2.303). Here, Beelzebub appears to be rising to the occasion, claiming his rightful place as Satan’s counselor, Majestic though in ruin. Proud, but obsequious, he may be Satan’s alter ego. He is reluctant to lead, yet eager to serve, to operate in reflected light. This is epic hubris, as it represents hero-worship, and the refusal to exercise free will.
The epic simile continues, citing Beelzebub’s Atlantean shoulders fit to bear the weight of mightiest monarchies, (2.306). Is this strength and resilience, or willingness to suffer under someone else’s dictates? Or is it perhaps Milton’s first mention of the need for human reverence and obedience to the Almighty? Regardless, Beelzebub is ready to serve. Yet, like Adam embracing his fate at the end of the poem, Beelzebub’s counsel is taken. Hearing of the coming of a new creature, some new race called Man, (2.348), Satan adopts Beelzebub’s wisdom, and the epic contest is begun.

Where in the Caribbean can you find numerous different options for fishing, ranging from bone to fly, and even deep-sea fishing? The Bahamas offers all these different options and more, making it one of the premier holiday destinations for fishing enthusiasts. You’ll soon find that, when in the Bahamas fishing, the area is a Mecca for marine life. However, if you forget the modern boats and hi-tech rods you’ll soon find that a native form of catching your prey is not only the most rewarding, but also allows you to get back to nature and discover ancient skills that have been lost in the hubbub of modern life:
Remember the scene in the film, The Beach, when Richard arrives on a remote Thai beach and learns the art of spear fishing? Swap the Thai beach for the tropical waters of the Caribbean and you have your own natural paradise. However, unlike Leonardo Di Caprio’s character you won’t have to fashion your own spear out of bamboo, as the only weapon allowed in the Bahamas’ fishing version is the Hawaiian sling, designed to act in the same way as an underwater slingshot. While this sling technique isn’t as up to date as the sling gun – the more commonly used method for spear fishing – Bahamas’ officials have banned such methods to preserve the volume of fish currently living in the waters.
You need to be more than just a hunting aficionado in order to really excel in the Bahamas fishing for your prey. Some of the best spear fishermen are masters at free-diving, an extreme sport where competitors reach record depths and distances on a single breath. Taking a Hawaiian slingshot with you and attempting to catch prey while free diving really adds an element of thrill to the mix. However, if you haven’t practised free diving before then it’s probably not a good idea to do so with a slingshot in your hand. It is still easy to enjoy spear fishing while diving normally or even when snorkelling.
The time of the year can really make a difference to, not just the visibility of the water, but the prey that you are fishing. Bahamas’ tropical islands might be the perfect destination on a year round basis, but the months of May, June and July have the best visibility and the warmest waters. If it’s bonefish that you’re after then the cooler waters of November through to February are when wahoo and bonefish are abundant.
When in The Bahamas fishing with just a spear you’ll need to wear a specialist wetsuit. Some of these wetsuits come in two pieces and often include an optional hood and shorts. You’ll also need to wear fins, gloves and a mask. Many professional spear fishers use water belts to aid a faster descent, as well as wearing special fins which are slightly longer than your average scuba diving fins.
Of course, before you get good enough to start spear fishing professionally you’ll need to learn with an experienced guide. There are numerous companies in The Bahamas that can take you out, although you’ll be required to watch some vital safety information and undergo training before you try it for yourself!

Giving encouragement to those with weak English gives them confidence, support and a trust in you. Check Meanings When communicating across cultures never assume the other party has understood. Micro Pigs – How to Care For Your New Micro Pigs
Micro Pigs make fantastic pets if looked after well, you should always be sure this is the pet for you. You can never ask too many questions. They are intelligent, friendly and can even be taught tricks like dogs.
Micro pigs should be bought in pairs, unless you have a dog or other animal living in your home, a micro pig will be miserable if alone without a mate (must be another pet if not buying a pair). This is not us trying to sell more than one pig as we do not need to, demand is so high for them, it is genuinely in the best interest of the pig to be kept in pairs. Remember they are not pets for children they will be friendly with children but like any animal bought into the home if you have young children that may want to climb all over the pig it could cause the pig to get grumpy, so adult supervision is a must.
You need a carrier with straw in the bottom, if you prefer you can put a blanket in the bottom of the carrier. If it’s a long journey home provide water for your micro pig, your baby will not need food until you get home. Remember your new baby will be tiny.
You should confine your new micro pig/pigs to a smallish area whilst they get used to new surroundings and people, gradually you can allow them more roaming (normally 2-3 days).
You should ensure that your baby pig is kept warm and has no draughts, plenty of straw this is including if your baby is going in an outside shed etc, a snuggle safe might be an idea (it heats in the microwave and stays warm for about 8 hours)
We feed all our micro pigs and piglets on sow nuts for pigs, these contain all the essential vitamins and minerals to keep your new baby healthy, they are also non-fattening, we will of course be providing you with a 25 kilo bag this will see you through around 3-4 weeks. Ask your breeder to recommend places to buy sow nuts. They will last around 3-4 weeks so you will need to keep them fresh.
To start with a handful of sow nuts will be sufficient a baby micro pig does not need a lot of food, as he/she grows older they will eat around half a dog bowl of the sow nuts, they only need feeding once per day and morning is best. You can give your pig small treats but don’t overdo it and try and stick to low fat treats. Do not feed your pig any meat products, anything with high salt content. For example you can give your new piglet fruit, bread, and vegetables. Pigs like dogs will respond well to food given as a reward. Please do not over feed your baby micro pig, they will get fat!
Your new micro piglet should have fresh water available to him/her at all times. We are currently using automatic water feeders and they work very well for our micro piggies.

They offer much more than any one Caribbean resort can offer, and can be great fun no matter what the weather is like. Those with enough time and money can easily combine these two regions into one cruise, seeing what I consider to be the best of what the Caribbean has to offer!
How Much Does it Cost to Retire in the Philippines?
A lot of Americans contemplate on retiring overseas for various reasons – better climate, new adventures, or a lower cost of living. The Philippines is slowly rising as a retirement country of choice because of its tropical climate, beautiful beaches, and of course, the low cost of living.
Planning for a budget for retiring in the Philippines actually depends on you. What kind of lifestyle do you actually want?

As in most places, the biggest expense that you will have in the Philippines is housing, and it depends on which location and type of dwelling you choose to live. You can opt for a townhouse, high rise condominium, studio apartment, or a detached house. If you choose to live in Manila, expect to pay more. Although there is a great range of housing costs in the city, in general it ranges from $500 to $1500 per month. It costs a little more than $1500 if you choose to live in upscale areas such as Makati or Ortigas area.
If you chose to live in cities located in provinces like Cebu City in the Visayas or Davao City in Mindanao, housing would cost from $300 to $900 a month. In the more rural cities like Tacloban, Dumaguete, Cagayan de Oro, or Butuan, you would pay around $200 to $700.
For the utility and other household expenses like electricity, telephone, internet, cable TV, medical and dental expenses, groceries, dining out and entertainment, and other miscellaneous expenses are pretty much the same in all the areas in the Philippines. Public transportation and taxis are readily available and inexpensive, and there is actually no need to purchase your own vehicle. But if you opt to have your own car and driver, it would cost you around $60 to $100 a month for fuel, repairs, and the driver.
The best thing about retiring in the Philippines is that you can adjust your lifestyle to your pension or budget.
